Rwandan refugees die at Nyamuyinyi military camp in DRC
Press release n ° 020 / 2019-12-16
From different sources as corroborated by the Radio France International (RFI) published on December 12th , 2019, Rwandan refugees arrested by the FARDC: children, women and old people die in the Nyamunyinyi military camp in South Kivu following the lack of assistance and deplorable humanitarian conditions of detention (http://www.rfi.fr/afrique/20191215-rdc-prisonniers-fardc-enfants-cndr-camp-militaire). These hunted down people, are mainly Rwandan Hutu refugees who have been living in the KALEHE region of South Kivu and are being massacred by the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Armed Forces (FARDC) and their allies of Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) soldiers who came from Rwanda under the authorization of President Tshisekedi.
The Rwandan Movement for Democratic Change (RMDC) strongly and unreservedly condemns these inhuman and criminal acts and denounces the irresponsible behavior of the DRC authorities with regard to their international obligations concerning human rights.
The MRCD-UBUMWE calls on the international community and humanitarian organizations to assume their responsibilities in order to immediately stop this imminent humanitarian disaster. In particular, we reiterate our request to the UNHCR to partner with relevant authorities to put an end to the ongoing massacres of Rwandan refugees now hunted down like wild animals in the Congolese forest (https: //mrcdubumwe.org/genocide-au-congo-paul-kagame-et-ses-militaires-continuent-lextermination-des-refugies/);
As the MRCD, we understand that we cannot in any way, prevent the President of the DRC from taking decisions that go with the interests of the Congolese people and this for the safeguard of the sovereignty of his country. However, in the case that concerns the Rwandan Hutu refugees and ourselves, and taking into account our experience, we would like to point out the following to President Tshisekedi:
- that the friendly and highly warm relations between him and his Rwandan counterpart are unfortunately harmful to the clarification of the crimes committed by the latter and his army as mentioned in the UN Mapping Report of August 2010 (https: // www .ohchr.org / documents / countries / cd / drc_mapping_report_final_fr.pdf);
- warn that his personal relations, confused with those between the two States, will allow Paul Kagame’s army, after the extermination of the Rwandan refugees, not only to continue the export of strategic minerals from the DRC, but more importantly, will end up with the balkanization of the Congo by the seizure of both Kivu provinces. In sum, the current relations between President Tshisekedi and Paul Kagame are disastrous and ruinous for the wealth and unity of the Congolese people, constitute, and hamper the achievement of reconciliation and unity between Rwandans.
